Advancing Juvenile Justice in Europe: The EPO4Youth Project Takes a Major Step Forward

💁‍♀️ Advancing Juvenile Justice in Europe: The EPO4Youth Project Takes a Major Step Forward

On January 29th and 30th, Budapest hosted the first meeting of the EPO4Youth project (Advancing Juvenile Justice and Detention Conditions in Europe).
Coordinated by Associazione Antigone, the project brought together key partners of our network including Fachhochschule Dortmund, Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, Greek Society for the Study of Crime and Social Control, Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, Latvian Centre for Human Rights, Hungarian Helsinki Committee, Interdisciplinary Human Rights Center – ANPDES and Association for the Defense of Human Rights in Romania – the Helsinki Comittee (APADOR-CH).

🔎 The meeting was a vital opportunity to align our efforts and assess the current state of juvenile detention across Europe. Discussions focused on developing new research methodologies to track juvenile prison conditions more effectively, designing a centralized database to collect and compare findings across different countries and implementing new strategies to ensure the rights of young people in the criminal justice system are protected at every level.

🎈 Every day, young people enter the penal system across Europe. Our goal is to ensure that “justice” for them means rehabilitation and the full protection of their human rights. This meeting was the first step in making that vision part of our work through rigorous monitoring and collective action.
